Township talk

By MARYANNE LAUBNER

* In this township we had a very nice Memorial Day Weekend. It could have been a tad less windy and a little warmer, but the sun was beautiful. There probably were cookouts everywhere. There was one at the Laubners on the back patio. As the sun headed west the crowd's chairs kept scooting with it. Just before the dinner broke up we were all sitting in the driveway trying to stay in the sun.

* Lakeside conducted a very nice ceremony on Memorial Day. Their monument was nicely decorated with an American flag created from flowers. Marblehead also had a nice service. They have a new area with memorials and artillery.

* St. Paul Lutheran Church installed their new officers for the year 2009-2010 on Sunday, May 17. They are Carrie Botti, president; Anna Povlick, vice president; Curt Laubner, treasurer; and Ruth Keller, secretary. The at-large members are Tim Armbruster, Neil Merckens and Rocky DeWalt.

* The Marblehead Peninsula Lions Club celebrated their 25th charter year at Ritski's Bar and Grill at the Lighthouse Resort. It was a very special night for Neil Allen. See the other article in this paper.

* St. John and St. Paul Lutheran Church's pastor, Chris Young, is traveling to Africa (she's probably already there) to escort her aunt home from that continent. Pastor is being accompanied by friend and church member, Linda Ottermat. Pastor Chris' Aunt Sarah was doing missionary work there until she became ill. We all hope you have safe travel both directions.

* The Lions Club has to once again say "Thank You" to the people of this community. For a couple of weeks after the Daisy Day Pancake Breakfast the club continued to receive donations towards the CCTV for Karen Oglesbee.

* The Danbury High School Class of 1990 is going to have a mini reunion at Put-in-Bay Friday, July 3. Contact if you'd like to attend.

* Bill Kihlken reported the corn is coming up right on time and looking good.

* Brian Kowalczk and sons Andrew and Eric will be traveling to Wasilla, Alaska, to visit Brian's uncle and aunt John and Roseann Kowalczk. While in Alaska they will be trying their hands at hunting and fishing. Gramma Gail could not say what they will be hunting and fishing for.

* Russ and Mary Ward had a Memorial Day Weekend visit from daughter Lesley and her husband Rob. This was the first visit for grandson Ethan. Lesley took this opportunity to attend a reunion with her Oberlin College classmates.
