Rev. Dr. Harold Ewing
The Rev. Dr. Harold Walter Ewing, 96, Sebring, died Sunday, Feb. 28, at Copeland Oaks.
He was born Oct. 28, 1913, in Hoopston, Ill., to the Rev. Walter Lee and Ethel Marie Ewing. He married Dorothy Day of Des Moines, Iowa, in 1935; and she preceded him in death.
He received his undergraduate degree from DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., and received an MA and MDiv. degrees from Boston University School of Theology.
He and his wife shared their love of and work for the United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. He retired in 1983, but continued to be active as interim pastor in a number of churches.
The Rev. Harold and Dorothy Ewing served churches in Litchfield, N.H.; in Gnadenhutten; at Christ UMC in Canton; as national director of Youth Ministries for the UMC in Nashville, Tenn.; at Union Avenue UMC in Alliance; at Willoughby UMC, Willoughby; and retired from Bay UMC, Bay Village, in 1983. He served as superintendent of the Painesville District UMC and was the founding director of the Area Wide Council on Ministries for the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife; and two sons, Stephen and William Ewing.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10, in the Bennett Chapel at Copeland Oaks, Sebring.
