Popular guitarist to play
The Musical Arts Series at Firelands has announced the return performance of the popular classical guitarist Matthew Ardizzone on Saturday, Jan. 23, at 7:30 p.m. Ardizzone's audience reception during his last Musical Arts Series performance has been described as “wildly enthusiastic.”
Ardizzone will present a program from the classical guitar repertoire. He has performed throughout North America as a soloist, with orchestra, and in a variety of chamber music settings. The NYC Guitar Society has recognized him for his “incredible tone, marvelous technical facility, and poetic phrasing,” and the Pittsburgh Tribune has described his “sensitive nuances.”
Ardizzone has performed and taught master classes at schools throughout the country, including the Cleveland Institute of Music, Brooklyn College, and Eastern Michigan University. His recordings include a solo guitar CD “Mazurka!” which won a 2001 Communicator Crystal Award of Excellence. His other awards include first prize in the 1995 Rantucci Guitar Competition and fifth place in the 1997 Stotsenberg International Guitar Competition. The first guitarist to earn a doctorate in performance from the Eastman School of Music, he has been on the guitar faculties of Bowling Green State University, Nazareth College of Rochester, and the Eastman Community Music School.
Ardizzone's performance will take place at Firelands Presbyterian Church, 2626 E. Harbor Rd., Port Clinton. Tickets cost $15 and are available by reservation by calling 419-734-6211 or at the door. Student admission is free.
