The fifth grade team defeated four other county opponents to take home the championship trophy. On Saturday, Feb. 27, at Danbury, Joe Miller, head boys basketball coach, was presented a basketball and team photo for his 100th win, after the Lakers defeated the Toledo Christian Eagles by a score of 54-52 on Friday, Feb. 24, in Toledo. Miller is the only boys' coach in Danbury boys' basketball history to achieve this feat. Miller started his career in 2002 at Danbury and the Lakers won the Toledo Area Athletic Conference in 2003 and 2005. His team was ranked 16th in the state in 2003, 10th in 2004, and sixth in the state in 2005. He has won seven tournament wins in seven seasons, won three sectional titles, one district championship, and one regional appearance (2003). Miller is the only coach in Danbury history (boys or girls) to win a district championship. It looks as if he was built a couple of days ago and had already started to melt some, but now he was getting a new coat of snow. Danbury Basketball coach Joe Miller had plenty to cheer about last Friday night as he won his 100th basketball game. The Lakers took the 54-52 victory over Toledo Christian in overtime. Danbury fourth graders in Ms. Sauber's physical education class have hit the water again as swim lessons have resumed for the winter. The Danbury Lady Lakers were host to Cardinal Stritch on Thursday, Feb. 4. Pictured above is Kayla Oxendale as she attempts to regain control of this loose ball against Cardinal Stritch. Oxendale had five assists and two points. Leading scorers were Heather Bahnsen with 12 and Christine Longer with 11. Brittany Isom had seven points and led the team with six rebounds. The team played great and avenged an earlier season loss to Stritch at their place 58-52. Final score on Thursday was Danbury 45, Cardinal Stritch 22. The team name was Danbury Youth Organization (DYO) met at the Danbury High School for a fun night of games on Jan. 27. Prizes were donated by Pizza Hut, Cinemark Theatre in Sandusky, Bruno's Pizzeria, and Sloopy's Sports Cafe.
