Lakers upset Eagles in overtime
for Miller's 100th career win
It took an extra four minutes, but the Danbury Lakers defeated the Toledo Christian Eagles by a score of 54-52. The victory by the Lakers gives Coach Miller 100 wins in his career at Danbury. He is the only boys' coach in Danbury boys' basketball history to achieve this feat.
Rodney Johnson led a balanced attack with 16 points, two rebounds, two steals, and two blocks. Tyler Boring and Hunter Stephens both recorded double-doubles on the night. Boring had 14 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocked shots, while Stephens tallied 13 points, 13 rebounds, and three assists. Vincent Manuella added three points, five rebounds, and four assists and Steven Feyedelem contributed four points, two rebounds, two assists, and three steals.
"It is only the second time in five years that any team has beaten Toledo Christian in their own gym," said Miller. "Stephens and Boring made big shots in overtime and Feyedelem took a charge at the end of the game that sealed the victory."
"I am very proud of the team and the way they handled a very hostile environment," added Miller.
The victory by the Lakers improves their overall record to 9-6 and their TAAC mark to 5-4.
The JV team lost to Toledo Christian. Dakota Hruby, Zach Kalinoski, and Cory Schenk each scored four points for the Lakers.
On Feb. 2, the Lakers were defeated by the Northwood Rangers 54-50 in overtime.
Tyler Boring led the Lakers with 15 points, 14 rebounds, and eight blocked shots. Rodney Johnson tallied 12 points, two rebounds, two assists, and three steals, while Vincent Manuella contributed seven points, three rebounds, seven assists, and four steals. Hunter Stephens added six points, six rebounds, and two steals and Steven Feyedelem contributed nine points, two rebounds, and two assists.
The JV team beat Northwood by a score of 33-24. Dakota Hruby led the Lakers with nine points and six rebounds. Dalton Chapman added eight points and three assists, while Zach Collins, Lucas Kennedy, and Branden Burke all contributed four points each.
