Holiday color and history
subject of new Richmond print
Ben Richmond has spent years driving by the little seaside cottage near Winter Harbor, Me. "I've been wanting to do a painting of this quaint cottage and finally created 'Yuletide Cottage,' my 2009 Christmas release," Richmond said. "It wasn't until I researched its history that I even became more intrigued."
Located on the Schoodic Point Peninsula at Acadia National Park, the attractive English style half stone, half timber building was erected as it now stands in 1907 next to the West Gouldsboro Union Church.
In 1906, Andrew Carnegie donated funds to build "The Briars" (its original name) which became the rectory/summer home of Father J. Montgomery Sears. Designed by Charles Savage, who was the principle architect of many "summer cottages" of wealthy tycoons in Bar Harbor, such as the Vanderbilts, Rockefellers and Pulitzers. It is now a rural library and is on the National Registry of Historic Places.
Now available in a very limited edition print and canvas giclee'. Each personally signed by Richmond, "Yuletide Cottage" makes the perfect centerpiece for your Christmas celebration.
